Trust & Transparency
Education is personal.
When a school chooses a curriculum, they're placing trust in the people behind it.
When a parent chooses a school, they're doing the same.
At Real Life Skills, we believe that trust should be earned through openness, integrity, and a genuine commitment to helping young people succeed.
That's why we'd like you to know who we are.
Meet the Founders
Yvette & Derek Graystone
We are educators, entrepreneurs, parents, and the founders of Riverbend Academy, an independent JK to Grade 12 school in Ontario, Canada.
For more than a decade, we've worked alongside students, parents, and teachers every day. We've celebrated remarkable successes, supported students through difficult challenges, and learned firsthand what schools need to help young people thrive.
Real Life Skills wasn't created in a boardroom.
It was created in classrooms.
Why We Created Real Life Skills
Over the years, we noticed something that many educators and parents quietly recognized.
Students were learning mathematics.
They were learning science.
They were learning history.
But many were graduating without the practical skills that help them navigate everyday life.
Skills like:
Self-discipline
Goal setting
Emotional intelligence
Decision making
Financial literacy
Communication
Organization
Creativity
Memory skills
Personal responsibility
These skills influence every aspect of life, yet they are often left to chance.
We believed students deserved better.
Real Life Skills was created to provide practical, engaging, evidence-informed lessons that help prepare students not just for graduation, but for life.
Our Philosophy
We believe education should help students become capable, confident, compassionate people.
Academic success is important.
Character is essential.
Life skills bridge the gap between the two.
Every lesson we create is designed to be practical, optimistic, and immediately useful in a student's daily life.
Built by Educators
Unlike many educational publishers, we don't simply write curriculum.
We teach.
We test ideas in real classrooms.
We listen to teachers.
We learn from students.
We continuously improve our materials based on real educational experience.
Our Commitment
When schools choose Real Life Skills, they can expect:
Professionally developed curriculum
Honest communication
Ongoing improvements
Respect for educators
Respect for student privacy
Evidence-informed teaching practices
Long-term partnerships with schools
Transparency
We believe organizations should be open about who they are.
